Large Antique Ceramic Jar from South India
A large, hand built ceramic pot from Kerala, India, circa 1850. This stoneware vessel has a dark black-brown lead glaze with a beautiful, earthen patina. The jar is a perfect marriage of form and function. It was originally used for personal water storage. A wooden lid would have been tied down on top of the jar using the loops on the side.
