Anglo-Indian Mahogany “Grecian Urn” Tester Bed
This early 20th century hand carved mahogany tester bed is a treasure from Kolkata, India, once the capital of British India. The headboard and footboard are mirror images, with shapely Grecian urns as the focal point and geometric panes with a carved flower on each side. The center tester supports have a complementary design, with barley twist posts extending to the canopy. The supports and tester can be removed, if desired (see image #13). The bed assembles with 4 long bolts and a key (see last image) and comes with sturdy bed slats (not shown). The frame fits a queen-sized mattress. Please note that the bed has its original finish. If/when it is restored, it will be an even more magnificent piece of Anglo Raj history.
