Fair Trade imports a classic and elegant collection of antique bell jar lighting, Colonial British furniture and architectural elements; specializing in selling 19th C. antique English hall lanterns, hand blown hurricane shade sconces and shields, and antique Anglo Raj and British Campaign furniture crafted from exotic hardwoods.
During the period of the British Raj in India (1757-1947), English officers and citizenry brought furniture and artifacts with them for their homes or businesses. The English influence and European style can also be found in commissioned pieces using noble hardwoods like rosewood, teak, satinwood, camphor and mahogany. The exceptional native craftsmanship added a distinctive quality. Many of these pieces would have been used on tea plantations, officer’s headquarters or in the home of the English gentry or Indian residents.
The inventory offers a wide range of furniture including cabinets, chairs, sofa suites, caned settees, chaise lounges, armoires, chest of drawers, cases, desks, tables, trunks, chests and beds. The lighting inventory for English hall lamps (bell, globe or melon-shaped) with smoke caps is extensive, and also includes colored lighting and hurricane shades.
